I think that the logo on the tank looks pretty pathetic... Has anyone tried to remove it? Is it easy? And put some decals on instead? Im thinking some nice Japanese stickers maybe? What do u think? Pix please...

use a blow dryer and peel of. But do it quick cause the sun changes the color pretty fast on the surface without stickers!

I removed the warning sticker after 2 months and now I have a rectangle of darker color :) but hey the tank covers are plastic and easily removed so maybe I just take them of and re paint or vinyl wrap them or do something else....

I'd love to see some one try and vinyl wrap a tank cover. Anyone?
On the French forum, a guy (johanrd) has made IMHO, a kick ass vinyl wrap with 3M stickerbomb, a beauty. It's a Deep Armour MT, by the way.

PS: As it is on their public forum, I have the right to copy it, do I?

Amazing... Endless possibilities. Looking forward to seeing your project, sdrio!
I think it's an interesting idea - the vinyl costs less that £10 (about 13 euros?), so it can be changed quite regularly if you feel so inclined.

Not sure about the sticker bomb one, but I've also looked at flourescent orange, but decided against that as the MT09 has a similar colour already, or maybe some kind of camoflage.

As a start you need remove the Yam logo... Probably easy enough. I think the white sticker on azur blue will be great. Almost the only color that will work on the blue. I'm thinking more in line of matt black with a red rising Japanese sun sticker. Or maybe more retro with a checkered flag ...

I'm in two minds about removing the Yam stickers, but I think you;re probably right, they will show through.

Tip for searching (sorry if it's obvious), if you're looking for example on amazon, you can get quite precise results using the minus sign. For example with vinyl wrap there are thousands of 'carbon fibre' effect wraps, but if you don't want that, add '-carbon' to your search and it will not return them.

Another tip - remember if you're adding a sticker, you might want to get mirror images, so they both point the right way. I asked for that when I ordered mine, the guy is going to do one in reverse.

Even if you don't like the pattern that wrap job is pretty awesome! It would be great to get this done somewhere down the line. I'd be half tempted to get a pro to do it. You don't want to end up with score marks in your paint from cutting etc.

Yes, should have added, it looks pretty neat.

I've got a soft bladed squeegee for applying the wrap. I'm not expecting scratches, but imagine the tricky part will be getting it to sit properly in the recess where the front bolts go in.

I'm not sure the panels are even painted - haven't had them off yet, but aren't they just molded plastic?

I'll be working all this stuff out, and will post results. I'm thinking to make some molds off the panels so I can experiment with stuff like gel coated fiberglass. It's all cheap to do, so it's only a question of finding time.

The tank covering itself, so the main purple, red, or white (etc) bit is definitely painted plastic, just like a car bumper. This has got both colour and clear coat I reckon and normal car polish works fine. The black side panels (air intakes) and top part are certainly just moulded matt black plastic. Are you thinking of wrapping those black bits sdrio?

If you can get it, this would be a great colour for a vinyl wrap - this is original triumph matte paint on a speed triple:

I've had a look round the bike, there's nothing really screams at me to be wrapped - I quite like the lack of colour on the bike. I did a photoshop mockup of the blue tank, it looks great. I did some other bits, but there was nothing I really liked.

Possibly a set of blue wheelrim stickers would finish it off. Maybe spray the grill inside the air intakes as well.

@ sdrio. Thanks for the tip... I've made a Photoshopped blue version of my own bike... Not too bad with blue color. I like it!MT07-blues.jpg

Yeah, that's about the colour I chose, I think it looks pretty good.

Let's hope it goes on smoothly.

Big fan of the stickerbomb 07, though it is tamer that I would have liked.
Have idea but like all the other little projects I want to do with my FZ it is going to have to wait

I think the problem is that the only part of the bike that is painted is the tank. The rest is a mixture of mainly black plastic bolt on parts, most of which have some kind of texture, and they would look really odd if you wrapped them.

If you started trying to do those to match, it would very quickly start to look like a dogs dinner.

Having said that, I also have an Aprillia 125 scooter in my shed, as a spare. That has a big area of plastic, front to back and I'm thinking it would look quite good with a wacky wrap like that.
