This is the line I have had from my local dealer

As long as you return to the dealer that originally supplied the bike you only pay for the parts, not sure how you stand if you are using a different dealer as to supplied the bike originally

My cost was just over £40 this did include an environmental charge to dispose of the old oil, this I presume may differ with different local authorities

Wow, I would go back and take the warranty handbook and show them page 11, paragraph 1, if they supplied the bike. Below is the wording in the same.

First Service:-
Your yamaha motorcycle should be inspected and serviced by the supplying dealer after 600 miles /1000 km(or 6 weeks if this occurs sooner). The service will be carried out without charge for labour(by the supplying dealer), for the original owner, unless otherwise agreed. Parts such as filters and oils are chargeable.

You had your first service with them yet?
No, getting close, but if they don't buck up, I have a contact in robinsons who own them and they are already aware of the poor service(poor buying experience), trying to give them a chance to redeem or I'll have a riot!

Please can you update me with your service experience.
I have asked a Yamaha dealer in Stoke on Trent for a first service quote and they have got back to me with a figure of £100 - £130.
I also emailed Yamaha themselves and asked what the score was with the first service and this was their reply......

We thank you for your enquiry regarding your recently purchased Yamaha MT-07 and are sorry to hear of your concerns over any charges that may be imposed, for the first service.

The first service will generally be carried out without labour charge, by the supplying dealer, for their original customer, unless otherwise specified at the point of sale.

We are however aware that not all dealers subscribe to this arrangement.

At this point we would stress that any first service labour costs are a matter for the supplying dealer and would be built into the price that they charge for a machine.

Should they so chose, to exclude the first service labour charges, from within the sale price of a machine, that is their prerogative.

With out seeing a breakdown of the quoted cost, it's a little difficult to comment. particularly as dealer labour rates vary considerably as you move around the country.

As a guide however, we would expect a dealer to be taking around 1.3 hours to complete such a service.

Don't know how Yamaha can say that tricky, it's in their warranty book, it would appear the same with the datatag issue, the dealer does it if they want, Yamaha should send a clear message out on these types of points. Not well they might, but might not, depends, what a load of rubbish.

I'll keep you posted on the outcome of my service in the next few weeks.

When I was buying my bike nothing was mentioned or agreed about this. It was only mentioned after I had paid and it was me who bought the subject up!!!
You got your bike 5 weeks b4 me, when did you ask about Datatag?
I mentioned it to them on 27/6/14 when I was collecting my bike and they knew nothing about it then.

If Yamaha or the dealer were providing the 600 mi. service at a reduced price or free, or if there were problems with the bike, I would let them have at it, but otherwise this is a very easy bike to do an oil change on, adjust the chain, etc. Believe me, they are not going to devote a master mechanic to doing oil changes and nobody cares about your bike nearly as much as you do. You could buy all the tools you would ever need to do basic maintenance on the bike..wrenches including a torque wrench, socket set, plus oil and filter, and maybe even a rear stand for less than they are charging you to do one oil change. Perhaps your laws are different in Europe, but in the US, if you should have a problem in the future with the bike....say a blown engine (highly unlikely), they might want to see receipts for the oil and filter, but the warranty still applies. There is no requirement for the dealer to do the service, nor do you have to buy your filter and oil from your dealer. Lots of oil meets their specs as do numerous oil filters. The Yamaha oil filter is probably the most common oil filter on the market compatible with many other bikes.

My brand new bike came with a loose chain and they had over-filled the oil. That's about all they actually did on my bike (and charged a set-up fee of course) at the dealer and they did it WRONG, so my bike will never be going back to the dealer in all likelihood.

I called three days before collection, as I needed to know what security it had to take the insurance out. This is when they advised of the built in mobiliser and Datatag. I was assured it would be done, but it definitely hasn't!. Service wise they said it would be in, when I ordered the bike, but again they have haven't wanted to see this through. Robinsons who own Millennium, actually sponsor a friend in thundersport, so I've used a contact and they are going to service the bike, for the cost of parts and put the datatag on for me too. I will never go back to Millennium, now.

Tricky, picked my race blue up from Millennium the other week, as I have just clocked up 500 miles I rang up to book the 600 mile service. Asked the price and they quoted £140....... I then saw your post and said you are joking . He eventually said if it says free labour in your service book we will honour it. (It does luckily) I Also asked about data tag and they said Yamaha don't do it only Suzuki, kawasaki so I said funny that on the Yamaha web site it states they do it free from 2012! He then said he could do it but I'd be waiting 2.5 hours that will do me just have a big breakie in the café. Can't get booked in till the 18th when I said I had over 500 miles on it he said you can go upto 750! No sure about that could be another millennium get out of jail!
My mate bought an FZ8 from marriots last year, he got a survey the other day from Yamaha about his dealer experience so we will get our own back on the head working ba#$@=ds!

Geffd, phoned Millenium on Friday just gone and spoke to a guy called Lee. I asked about when I could bring my bike back in for data tag etc and he told me it was already done. I told him it wasn't and he assured me it would have been done at the P.D.I. Once again I told him it wasn't and that I had no paperwork to say it was. He said leave it with me and I will get back to you. Ten mins later, gets phone call to say he`s sorry and that I`m right and also tells me that none of the Yam `s they have sold have been tagged when they should have been, not good!!
I asked about the price of the first service again and he confirmed it was £150. I told him what it said in my service book ( labour provided free) and he said " You must have been given an old service book as the new ones don`t say that any more. Told him I had spoken to Yamaha UK and he said not to worry about it at the moment, he would sort data tag out at first service and also come down on the price of the service as away of saying sorry for the data tag mix up.
Have to say not impressed with there after sales at the moment :(

First service done today. 159$ canadian dollars. My previous Suzukis were less expensive. Previous Yamahas were about the sane price for the first service compare with the FZ-07.
