Fuel consumption

Not according to what Peter posted above (see post #39). According to Peter's experiment, mrirvs was very very close to running out.
Oops lol, shall be careful in future.

At least in my mind I feel I can rely on the flashing fuel warning and know that I have a good 30 miles to get some fuel. Couldn't do that on my old 950 SM after 80 miles the nerves set in lol

On my ride today, about 100 miles, I averaged 59.9 mpg. That wasn't particularly easy riding. I didn't focus on the fuel gauge, just on throwing it round the country roads

I wonder what is possible to a tank of fuel?
It has to be one of the best on the market ?
Off to BMF on sunday and looney toones mates on their R1's etc going earlier due to my work. So I will be plodding up there on my own keeping within speed limits.
And riding my best to save fuel (it's almost like a top gear challenge?) Trying for 80 mpg. depends on the wind/ hills etc.
Will reset trip/av etc and do manual calcs. (can't really believe I'm typing this coz don't really giv a toss what it does coz really brill bike to ride)
Will report back later...don't think fuel consumption will be so good on the way home?

just back from 200 mile trip with my MT07 (riding with a BM K1300R and a Kawa Versys 1000) I used less than 3 gallons of sp98, making 70mpg. still running in so kept revs below about 6000. The MT overtakes so well in 5th gear at 3000-5000rpm. At fill, fuel gauge had one bar left, not flashing and I put 8 litres in.

Just done 120 miles of normal riding used exactly 8 litres. worked it out and it comes out at 68.57 miles to the gallon. Looked at av mpg on the clock and it said 68.4
How the hell can it be that accurate!!!! amazing

Today we did a trip together with a KTM 990 Adventure. Filled up at the beginning and next time close to the end of the tour. MT-07 filled with 8.9 Litres. KTM was more thirsty, 13.5 Litres. Same speed, very different amount of fuel.

BTW KTM is stronger but it has serious difficulties to follow me on the twisty roads. Seems Yamaha (or the rider) is better in sharp, low speed turns.

Well, my bike has well over 1,000 miles on it now and it's averaged 60.3 mpg (calculated).

The amount of time that I spend in London traffic drags the average down (my worst consumption over a tank full with 100% London driving was 57mpg).

Today, I took the bike out for 140 miles of A and B road riding, “Making progress” and using the full performance wherever possible (ie a lot) and I'm astonished to find that the bike's averaged 64.6mpg over this tank of fuel.

Frankly, I'm impressed.

As an aside, I'm struggling to see how people are getting mpg down into the 40s. Short of driving everywhere at 120mph or repeated drag starts, it would appear to be virtually impossible.
I think I've got a problem then ... just (5 mins ago) filled up - 1st one since the first service at 650 miles approx. I've just put in 11.26 litres and got 91.3 miles on the trip since the reset when I last filled it up!

That's only 36.86 miles per gallon (7.66l/100km)!!! Spirited but safe London riding and a high number of short trips ... but really what is going on!

It does however feel to me that I've got a new engine map since the 1st service - its got to go back because the b&stards scratched one of the panels when it was in for service so I'll check with them if its had a fuel map / new ecu firmware.

Did they come clean about it, or did you find out later on? There are no words to describe how pissed I would be. Feeling for you...

Maybe a stupid Q but do fill the tank all the way up in an uprise position? I don't think u get a full tank otherwise because it shows 4 bars as full but the last bar is triggered as low as 3/4 of the tank. When filling up the bike stands leaning to the left and the gas pump "pipe" stops filling cause it senses gasoline upp top near the "pipe". That could explain it I guess....but hen again maybe not :)

Tbh, something does sound a bit off. Even my Bandit 1250 averaged 39mpg on my commute!

To put things in perspective, I commute 7 miles each way in London traffic. I do try to keep the "Eco" light on where possible, but I don't like hanging about and if I need to squirt into a gap or overtake a slower vehicle then I nail the throttle and stuff the economy!

The worst I've done is 57mpg. Over the last week and a half, I've done another 120 miles of this and the bike took 10 litres of fuel - again an average of 57mpg.

I struggle to see how you're getting 36mpg unless your commute is ridiculously short, like 2 miles or something?

Is that what your trip computer is reading, as in the average mpg?

Sorry I can't solve your problem. But you seem to be using twice as much juice as everyone else.Something is really not right there. I don't think even Rossi could get it that bad!

Ignore the computer fill it to the top ride about 100 miles or till the bar flashes
fill to top divide the lit by 4.546 = uk gal divide the miles by the answer = uk mpg,
then you will know for sure. Trip computers are notoriously inaccurate though the
one on my Burgman 400 is nr dead on, I would still ask the dealer though and
get them to sort the scratch, you never know what goes on at dealers I worked
for one many many moons ago, when Yamaha were still making bamboo rickshaws.

Yes, i fill to the brim - but that wouldn't affect the figures I'm getting anyway.

Trip reads 43.1 MPG average. I only so far have used Shell Nitro + fuel, and I've got every receipt for the fuel I've put in so I might ask my bookeeper to let me know how many litres I've used so far next week. It is a lot of short trips - I suspect that's the reason.

Naaah, I only ride short trips and mostly with a hasty gas handling and I average 4,4L/100 km :(
